  • Responsibilities

    The purpose of this position is to assist and learn the Produce Department plans and management responsibilities to promote sales and achieve profit margins, in addition to providing a positive environment for our customers and associates.

     

                            Assists customers during their shopping experience

    • Greet, Offer, & Thank all customers
    • Prompt response to customer concerns
    • Ability to perform duties of produce clerks
    • Recording and reporting customer requests
    • Ability to show customers where products are located

                 Functional Requirement:

    • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (intercom, telephone, scanner, register, scale)
    • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math

                            Maintaining a neat and organized store appearance

    • Ensures floors are clear of debris at all times
    • Cleaning shelves, cases, and racking according to cleaning schedule
    • Compacts cardboard, stacks pallets, stores and organizes overstock
    • Maintains the eye-appeal of the department
    • Breaking down loads and dating product

                  Functional Requirement:

    • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (cardboard baler, garbage compactor, box cutter, pallet jack, shopping cart, ladder, knives, wrappers, scales)
    • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately 35F while handling products in coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
    • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math
    • Ability to learn taste, proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and perishability of product

                Daily supervision of store policies and procedures

    • Develop effective daily/weekly work plans
    • Adherence to Hornbacher’s Food Safety Practices
    • Utilize sales projections, budgeted labor goals, & previous operating results to optimize store performance
    • Providing performance reviews to produce department associates
    • Providing training and development opportunities for store associates
    • Calling in maintenance requests for produce department issues
    • Manage the department receiving, invoices, pricing, and inventory to ensure proper product control and that gross profit goals are met
    • Supervising, ordering, scheduling, and being responsible for the overall condition of the department

                Functional Requirements:

    • Physical: walking, bending, kneeling, able to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weighing up to 75 lbs., equipment operation (pallet jack, box cutter, shopping cart, ladder, computer, phone, intercom, Telzon, cardboard baler, garbage compactor, knives, wrappers, scales), frequent contact with water and various fruits and vegetables
    • May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately 35F while handling products in coolers and display cases. Most of the work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
    • Mental: judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, knowledge of weights and measurements, memorization, reading, writing, & math, analyzing and planning, basic business acumen, and attention to detail
    • Ability to learn taste, proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and perishability of product.

    Experience

    • 1-2 years supervisory experience preferred
    • Fresh department experience preferred
    • Food Safety Certification

    *Must be able to work a variety of shifts; including nights, weekends, & holidays.
